What to Learn about Planting and Water

1 hSouth May Avenue

Service Description

The pictures from the "Great Stem Projects" will explain themselves in Grandma's Place of Natural Learning. But for those impaired she will explain them. It is about making a planter growing plants by water called Hydroponics which is explained in the 8th and 9th pictures. The Sixth page tells how the items necessary are modeling clay, String, scissors, a plastic bottle, some cotton balls, three screwier sticks, some seeds as beans, and measuring cups. The first three instructions say to cut five strings with one to tie the screwier sticks together to support the plant growing like a teepee. Next it says to cut the top Grandma would say about 5" of the top off and it says to cut another 2" off, use your judgement. Then place the top upside down in the bottom of the bottle without touching the bottom because that is wear the roots will grow to. The 7th page starts out by filling the bottom part through the top of the bottle with water up to the top. Grandma would say to put some mineral in that or a mineral tablet. The next instruction says to drop about five of the strings down through the top of the bottle up through the top and lay them there. Next put the cotton bottles in pouring a little water on them and drop the seeds on them. Lastly put a little clay on each end of the strewers and tie them together with a little string as a teepee and place the clay ends in the top of the bottle top. Now place it in a lighted place and keep it watered and watch it grow as in the 7th picture explains the cotton balls (which mineral rocks can be used also) hold air to help it grow and the roots will grow down through the bottle top, and the stems will be supported by the strewers. The picture will also explain that they have professional plants growing them in big warehouses and such. It explains that these are also called Aquaponics besides hydroponics. The Aztec did it naturally and was researched in the 1900's but it is also makes a better and bigger crop, look forward to the next lesson.
